1 Beyond i12D: How Crestron’s New AI Camera Brings Intelligent Multi-PTZ to Everyday Meeting Spaces
When Crestron acquired 1 Beyond in 2022, the camera brand was known primarily for high-end intelligent multi-camera systems in premium boardrooms and executive spaces. The new 1 Beyond i12D, announced alongside the DM NAX platform at ISE 2026, marks a deliberate shift: Crestron is bringing AI-driven intelligent camera tracking to the everyday meeting room market, not just the flagship deployments.
What the i12D Does
The i12D is a multi-PTZ camera system that combines a wide-angle overview camera with AI-driven pan-tilt-zoom that tracks active speakers automatically. It’s designed to work natively with Crestron’s Automate VX platform, which means all the intelligence — speaker detection, camera switching, framing decisions — happens through Crestron’s existing control infrastructure rather than requiring a separate AI appliance.
The camera supports standard meeting room sizes, which is the key design decision here. Previous 1 Beyond systems were optimized for large, custom-configured spaces. The i12D is sized and priced for the conference rooms that make up the bulk of most enterprise portfolios — the 8-12 person rooms that are everywhere but rarely get intelligent camera treatment.
How It Integrates with Automate VX
Automate VX is Crestron’s AI speaker tracking platform, and the i12D is designed as its camera endpoint. The system uses the wide-angle view to continuously monitor the room and identify the active speaker. When someone talks, the system automatically adjusts the PTZ to frame that person appropriately — tight enough to feel engaged, wide enough to include people nearby.
The integration also ties into AutoMeasure, Crestron’s AI-powered camera calibration feature announced in January 2026. AutoMeasure uses computer vision to map the physical room and configure camera positions automatically, eliminating the manual setup that has historically made multi-PTZ systems time-consuming to deploy. Together, i12D and AutoMeasure reduce a multi-hour camera commissioning process to roughly 15 minutes.
The Market Opportunity
Intelligent camera tracking has been a premium feature for years. The i12D is Crestron’s bet that it can be democratized — pushed down into the volume tier of enterprise AV while maintaining the quality that 1 Beyond built its reputation on. For integrators who already have Crestron infrastructure in their clients’ buildings, it’s a low-friction upsell: the control layer is already there, the management platform is already deployed, and the i12D slots in as a camera upgrade rather than a system replacement.
The bottom line: The i12D is the piece that makes Crestron’s ISE 2026 story coherent. DM NAX handles audio at scale, AutoMeasure handles calibration, and the i12D handles intelligent video — all under one control platform. For enterprise AV standardization, that’s a compelling package.
