IPMX AV over IP AIMS NAB Show interoperability

The Alliance for IP Media Solutions announced that its IPMX suite of standards and specifications received the 2026 NAB Show Product of the Year Award. The award was presented in the IT Networking/Infrastructure and Security category at NAB Show 2026, according to AVNation’s report.

IPMX is positioned as an open, standards-based approach to AV over IP. Its purpose is to support interoperability across products from multiple vendors while fitting into modern IT and media workflows. That focus is significant because AV systems are increasingly expected to operate on standard network infrastructure and meet IT expectations around manageability and security.

Why IPMX Was Recognized

The award highlights IPMX’s role as an open and secure AV-over-IP framework for professional AV, broadcast, and media environments. AIMS has emphasized that IPMX is designed for deployable systems rather than isolated demonstrations, with specifications intended to help manufacturers build interoperable products.

IPMX is built on SMPTE ST 2110, a standards family used for professional media transport over IP networks. It also integrates AMWA NMOS, which supports discovery, connection management, and control in IP media systems. Together, those foundations give IPMX a standards-based structure for moving video, audio, and control across networks.

The framework supports both compressed and uncompressed video workflows over standard networks. That flexibility matters for projects where bandwidth, latency, image quality, and infrastructure cost have to be balanced. By addressing multiple workflow types, IPMX can be applied across different AV and media use cases without requiring a single transport model.

Broader 2026 Momentum

The NAB Show recognition followed other IPMX milestones in 2026. AVNation reported that IPMX held its first certification event at the European Broadcasting Union in Geneva. The technology also received multiple Best of Show awards at ISE 2026.

AIMS said the award reflects growing industry confidence in open, secure, and deployable AV-over-IP solutions for both AV and IT environments. The recognition also points to continued interest in vendor interoperability at a time when many organizations are standardizing AV systems around network-based infrastructure.

What This Means for AV Integrators

For AV integrators, the practical impact is that IPMX may give projects a clearer standards-based path for AV-over-IP designs that need interoperability, IT alignment, and support for compressed or uncompressed workflows, while still requiring careful product validation and network planning for each deployment.
