Panasonic Projectors Display AI-Generated Art at Smithsonian Castle

Panasonic deployed 44 of its 42,000 lumen 4K projectors to map artificial intelligence-generated artwork onto the Smithsonian Castle. The installation was created by Refik Anadol Studio, which generated the AI art from millions of artifacts held by the Smithsonian Institution.

The projection setup included positioning at least one projector approximately 200 meters away from the castle structure. The scale of the deployment—44 high-brightness 4K units—demonstrates the technical requirements for mapping dynamic content onto large architectural surfaces in an outdoor environment.

The use of AI to process the Smithsonian's extensive artifact collection represents an application of generative technology in cultural and institutional contexts. The projectors' 42,000 lumen output was necessary to render the AI-generated visuals on the castle's facade with sufficient brightness and clarity.
