There is a session at InfoComm 2026 called "AV as a Neural Network: The Architecture of Intelligent Space Design." That title would have sounded like a consultant's fever dream at InfoComm 2020. In 2026, it is a real product category conversation. The autonomous meeting room — one that self-configures, self-optimizes, and self-reports without a user touching a control panel — is no longer conceptual. It is being spec'd and installed, and the integrators who understand what it actually takes to build one are in a very strong position.

Let's be precise about what "autonomous" means in this context, because the marketing language has gotten loose. A truly autonomous meeting room, in the current state of the technology, does a handful of things reliably: it detects occupancy and adjusts environmental settings (lighting, HVAC, display power) automatically; it handles camera framing and microphone optimization without user intervention; it logs its own usage data and flags maintenance needs before they become failures; and it connects to whatever conferencing platform the first person to walk in is using, without them having to touch a panel or select a source.

That last point — automatic platform detection and connection — is where the hardest integration work lives right now. The AI layer needs to understand who is in the room, what device they brought, what platform their meeting is on, and connect everything cleanly in a few seconds. Companies like Logitech (with their Sight and Scribe AI systems), Huddly, and Cisco are all attacking this problem from different angles. None of them has a perfect answer yet, but the gap between best-in-class and everyone else is closing fast.

For integrators, the shift to autonomous rooms changes the value proposition in important ways. You are not selling gear anymore; you are selling a room that works. That means your commissioning process needs to include AI model tuning — setting the parameters for how the system learns the room's acoustic profile, defining occupancy thresholds, calibrating the speaker-tracking logic. You also need a monitoring infrastructure, because an autonomous room that fails silently is worse than one that never claimed to be autonomous in the first place.

The managed services opportunity here is real and significant. Clients who buy autonomous room technology need someone watching the data, tuning the models over time, and responding when the system reports anomalies. That is not a one-time install; it is an ongoing relationship. The integrators who figure out how to price and staff that model are going to look very different in five years than the ones still running on T&M service calls.
