The dirty secret of professional AV has always been commissioning. You can spec beautiful gear, run clean cable, mount everything perfectly — and then spend two days in the room with a laptop, tuning DSP, calibrating cameras, testing control logic, and tweaking until everything works the way it should. That time is expensive, it doesn’t scale, and it’s increasingly hard to justify to clients who expect technology to “just work.”

In 2026, AI is starting to genuinely collapse that commissioning timeline. The shift is happening across multiple product lines simultaneously, and integrators who recognize it early will have a significant competitive advantage — and need to start rethinking where their billable value actually lives.

The Commissioning AI Wave

QSC Q-SYS has integrated LLM-powered room commissioning workflows that guide technicians through setup using natural language — or, in some configurations, complete the process autonomously based on the room design file imported from CAD. Early adopters report that standard conference room commissioning has dropped from four to six hours to under ninety minutes.

What This Means for Integrators

The uncomfortable reality is that if commissioning time collapses, so does a significant chunk of traditional integration billing. Labor hours for configuration and tuning have been a reliable revenue line for decades. AI is going to compress that, and integrators who don’t adapt will feel it in their margins.

The adaptation looks like this: shift billable value toward system design, client education, and managed services. The integrator who can explain why a room is configured a certain way, train the client’s team to manage it, and offer an ongoing support contract is more valuable than one who simply spends time in the room with a tuning interface. AI handles the repetitive calibration; humans handle the relationships and the architecture decisions.

There’s also a new opportunity in AI-readiness audits — helping existing clients understand which of their deployed systems can be upgraded to AI-assisted management, and which need to be replaced. That’s a consulting conversation that didn’t exist three years ago.

The bottom line: Zero-touch deployment isn’t fully here yet, but it’s close enough that integrators need to be planning for it now. The practices that adapt will be faster, more profitable, and better positioned for the volume of AI-ready rooms clients are going to want over the next three years.
